New to the NDIS? Let's Make It Simple

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can feel overwhelming at first: new words, new processes and lots of questions. We're here to help you understand it. The NDIS provides funding and support to eligible people with disability, to help them pursue their goals and take part in everyday life.

The Basics

What the NDIS Is, and Who It's For

The National Disability Insurance Scheme is Australia's way of funding support for people with permanent and significant disability. It provides funding to help you work towards your goals, build your skills and take part in everyday life. It's generally available to eligible people aged under 65.

How to Check if You're Eligible

To join the NDIS you generally need to be under 65, an Australian citizen or hold an eligible visa, and have a permanent disability that affects your everyday life. If you're not sure whether you qualify, the NDIS has a simple eligibility checklist, and we're happy to talk it through with you.

How to Apply, and What Happens Next

You can apply by making an Access Request, either over the phone or in writing. The NDIS will ask for some information about you and your disability, then let you know whether your request is approved. If it is, you'll work with them to create your first plan.

Summaries are general guidance; the NDIS website remains the source of truth.
