A Welcoming Break, for Participants and Families

Respite gives family carers a chance to take a break from their caring role, and gives participants the opportunity to meet new people, get out, try new things and enjoy time in the community. Support is built around each participant's needs, wellbeing and independence.

What's Included

We offer two types of respite:

  • Non-Residential Respite

Someone coming into your home, or supporting a participant in the community

  • Residential Short-Stay Accommodation

A safe, supported stay away from home

Why GIFSA

Choosing to hand over care, even for a short time, takes trust. Our staff are screened, trained and backed by our team, and we keep communication clear so families know their family member is in good hands. Participants are supported safely and with dignity.

Participant Stories

Respite is as much for families as it is for participants. Here's how a short break made a difference for one family.

For Gus, staying away from home has become an opportunity to build confidence, independence and choice. With support workers who are well matched to him, he's become more comfortable spending time away from mum while having a say in his routines, meals and outings.

It's been wonderful to see their confidence grow and to know they feel comfortable staying away from home. Having support workers who are well matched to them makes such a difference, and we really value that they are given choice over their routines, meals and outings while staying with GIFSA.

Getting There Is Part of the Support

Short stays and community outings rely on safe transport, another reason our own fleet matters.

In a region as big as ours, reliable transport can be the difference between taking part and missing out. That is why GIFSA has invested heavily in our own vehicle fleet. Over 20 vehicles, including some that are wheelchair-accessible and modified, are built for the needs of people with disability, alongside a range of standard vehicles for participant use.

This matters in the Goldfields-Esperance, where wheelchair-compatible transport is limited and availability can be unreliable. Having our own fleet means our participants can count on getting to programs, appointments and community activities safely, comfortably and on time, wherever they need to go across the Goldfields-Esperance region.
